meet our community: Anika Zappa Pinelo

What does the word community mean to you? Maybe you think of your family, friends, and colleagues or those who encourage and support you. Community is special, and we're so grateful for it!

Paisley + Sparrow's community is one like no other! To build this community and introduce you to other wonderful people, we'll be featuring loyal P+S supporters on the blog over the summer. So, friends, grab a cup of coffee (or your beverage of choice) and pull up a chair! Today we'll be getting to know Anika Pinelo.

Hello, Anika! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I am originally from Guatemala, a beautiful country in Central America. I moved here when I was 18 (11 years ago) and live in the South Metro area. My husband and I are expecting our first baby in October, and we have a 6 year old Boston Terrier who has us wrapped around his little paw.

How did you discover Jen and P+S?

Jen and I went to the same gym a few years back, and I started seeing posts on social media from mutual friends about her store. I always find it fun when a person I know has a business. I love supporting their efforts!

Why do you love Paisley + Sparrow?

I love P+S because I am a huge advocate for shopping at small and local businesses. P+S’s mission is also a huge reason why I shop there for most of my gifts. Being from a country where poverty and violence is an everyday occurrence, I can identify with the mission of supporting women who are affected by it and need a second chance. This is my way of giving back while also giving a gift that is practical and beautiful!

Is there a specific country / organization / type of support / type of jewelry that you’re drawn to?

I love all of P+S’s jewelry, but I am drawn to pieces that are made by women affected by sex trafficking. Although all the causes P+S supports are important, sex slavery is a topic that resonates with me.

What is your all-time favorite, go-to P+S piece?

I have two!! The Shimmer Hoop earrings and the Chevron Necklace in gold. I have purchased the earrings for several friends, and I wear the Chevron Necklace almost every day. I also gave one to a dear friend of mine in Colombia who adores it.

How do you style these pieces?

I personally don’t own the earrings (YET)... they are next on my list!! (My husband laughs every time I get an envelope from P+S in the mail and asks who the lucky recipient is!) I style the Chevron Necklace with everything! I use it to dress up a plain Tshirt and with a blazer for work; I also use it to sparkle up a solid dress for going out on a date with my husband. Lately I have been using to with patterned shirts to create some contrast.

Can you tell us something interesting about yourself?

I am a very curious person. A fun fact about me is that I used to dream in Spanish, and for the last few years I unconsciously switched to English.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Jen and her team are always quick to ship anything I order and always flexible in sending to other addresses when it’s a gift. In fact, on one occasion, Jen even took the time to ask me if I wanted her to handwrite a message for one of the gifts. I love purchasing something that not only is for a good cause but also from a woman who has a huge heart!

Anika, thanks for sharing your story and love for P+S with us! We're so glad we could get to know you more. Thank you for being a faithful P+S advocate and making a difference with us!

PS: Connect with us through Instagram, Facebook, or email. We'd love to hear from you!
